A wonderful mourning locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This beautiful and decorative piece is crafted in 9kt yellow gold and has a wonderful enameled design?covering the surface, complete with a black, white and grey floral motif at the center. Additionally, the words "In Memoriam" is spelled across the front, adding a lovely sentimental charm to the already beautiful design. Fine engraved accents detail the decorative surface, and an intricate etched pattern covers the back. The locket opens to reveal space to store a special photograph inside behind a removable glass frame. At the top is a simple ring bail, perfect for hanging the piece from a favorite chain. Measurements: The piece hangs 1 1/2" in total length, measures 1" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is great. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the glass locket face. There is some minor damage to the enameled design, however, this is not noticeable when the piece is worn. Regardless, the enameling remains overall in excellent antique condition. The bail at the top is intact and the locket opens easily and fastens securely shut.
